The Opportunity
The Japanese Canadian Survivors Health & Wellness Fund Society was created to distribute health support grants to Survivors of the internment of Japanese Canadians during the Second World War. The Society needed a grant system that was simple and dignified for Survivors, and for the family members and Outreach Workers who helped them apply. It also had to track the approval of every application before payment, and give the Society a complete record for its audits and reporting.
Our Solution
Silius built the Society's grant-management system on Salesforce, using standard Salesforce objects to keep it simple to run and support. We delivered an online application portal for Survivors and the delegates applying on their behalf, clear validation and approval workflows, payment processing integrated with QuickBooks Online, and a complete audit trail. Applicants' eligibility and identity were verified by the Society's board and outreach team, who met with applicants directly; the system recorded each decision. We then supported the system for the life of the Fund, through the Society's audits and its orderly wind-down.
The Results
- 12,841 health grants distributed to 4,915 Survivors
- An application portal built for Survivors and the family members and Outreach Workers helping them apply
- Validation and approval workflows behind every grant
- Full auditability and traceability, supporting the Society through its audits
- Audit-ready backups and secure data retention throughout the program
- Support for the life of the Fund, including data archiving and an orderly wind-down
